Photographs are the anchors of our memory and a representation of a past that is gone forever. Photography finds itself somewhere between idealization and trivialization. In the modern day and age, while omnipresent and, as a result, invisible to some degree, its impact remains as powerful as ever. Against this background, preserving and displaying historic photographs is more relevant than ever. The City Museum Bruneck/Brunico is home to two photographic estates that are of particular value for the town: the estates of Ernst Mariner and the Kofler Family. Their works chronicle the history of the city of Bruneck and the surrounding area. The photographs illustrate what has changed and what has stood the test of time. They bring back to life the spirit of a time that has long passed and help us rediscover things that we have become used to a long time ago.
