Jenseits des Manaslu FRIEDL MUTSCHLECHNER – Mountaineer and photographer

Friedl Mutschlechner is remembered as a rock climber who conquered the Dolomites and a successful high-altitude alpinist who scaled the Himalayas alongside his friends Reinhold Messner and Hans Kammerlander. He was valued as a humorous, reliable and modest mountaineer by his peers. Kangchenjunga, Makalu, Shishapangma: From each of his many expeditions far away from home he brought back photographs that demonstrate his keen perception of the moment and the motif – from mountain landscapes to local life. For the first time ever, the exhibition titled “Manaslu and Beyond” presents not only pictures depicting Mutschlechner, but also images that were actually taken by him – a visual legacy that continues to impact viewers long after Mutschlechner’s untimely demise on the Manaslu mountain in 1991.
